Al-Fatihah Learning Academy (ALA) was founded in 2017 by a group of sisters who were classically trained in the Islamic sciences and licensed with ijazas from well-recognized traditional Muslim scholars. After years steeped in dedicated learning outside of Canada under the guidance of esteemed teachers, sisters Saleha, Zakiyah, Sajida and Zahida also earned their academic degrees once they returned to their homes in Toronto, Canada.
Establishing Al-Fatihah Learning Academy was borne of their recognition that they were in a unique position to support other women in Toronto who yearned for meaningful and deeper learning in the traditional Islamic sciences. Knowing firsthand the challenges that Muslim women face in accessing traditional learning, and with the blessings of their own teachers, they endeavoured to create a path to authentic licensure in Quranic recitation for women in the GTA.
By the grace of God, since being established, ALA has been offering classes in Quranic recitation for women in Toronto and has seen a cohort of students successfully graduate with licenses themselves.

If you are a Muslimah in Toronto, seeking to learn, improve and deepen your knowledge of the sciences of Quranic recitation and if you are ready to commit to a program of regular and well-supported study, then ALA offers a series of classes that may be beneficial for you.
Al-Fatihah Learning Academy’’s mission is to connect dedicated female students to the Quran through their weekly classes and to train Quranic recitation teachers for specialization.
The founders of Al-Fatihah are deeply invested in nurturing a community of illuminated women with an excellent standard of Quranic Recitation, a community in which the legacy of licensure or isnaad is honoured and the study of qira’at (variant recitations) is revived.
By joining their classes, you become a living part of the restoration of this tradition, and you will find yourself surrounded by the care and dedication of scholarly women and in the company of other women seeking to steep themselves in a community connecting, reciting and rejoicing as a student of the Quran.
